  1. Common questions about formatting:

  3. • I have formatted my Field icon to display dollars signs (Currency).  Where are they?
  4.  
  5. If you are using the Field icon in a calculation, the output will be displayed according to the format set for the Abacus.
  6.  
  7. If using Calculation Retain (an Abacus and a Field icon in the same rectangle), the format displayed will be that of the Field icon.

  9. • My field is formatted as a date but won’t accept the date I’ve typed in.
  10.  
  11. Helix will not accept dates earlier than the year zero or greater than 9999.
  12.  
  13. Remember:  Text and Picture types can not be formatted.

  15. • I type in 12.338, but the number is shown as 12.34.  Is my data changing?
  16.

No, the stored value is still 12.338.  If you type in more digits after the decimal point than you elect (in the number format dialogue) to display, the displayed number will appear rounded.  The stored number is unaffected.  Calculations will use the full number of digits, regardless of the display format selected.
